artist's notes: Irish in its inspiration, the idea for this gemstone rosary came from the one my Gran'ma brought from her childhood home in Co. Clare in the west of Ireland. I loved to look at its rough-carved square beads, grooved and wrapped with wire. It was a rosary of Connemara marble, a form of the mineral serpentine.
elements: 6mm natural serpentine, Bali silver. The intention bead is fancy jasper. The Celtic cross is of pure silver in a traditional design; the single decade (pictured below and left) is a replica of the high crosses seen throughout Ireland; the cross on the five-decade rosary incorporates a traditional Celtic spiral pattern.

designer's notebook: Serpentine is found in many northern countries, including the United States. In fact, it's the state mineral of California. However, when it's found in and around Connemara, Ireland, it earns the designation Connemara Marble.
